Databases are usually not written by the user of thermodynamic software, but exist as
unalterable files. There are however some situations, where the user must create or alter
an existing database in order to perform the intended calculations. Such situations are
e.g:
Internally consistent data for a chemical system is published in printed form only.
example:Berman R.G., Brown T.H. (1984): A thermodynamic model for
multicomponent melts, with application to the system CaO-Al2O3-SiO2.
(Geochim. Cosmochim. Acta 48:661-678)
To add new phases as they are published and to test their consistency with the existing database.
To fit thermodynamic data of additional phases.
To test solution models.
The present exercice is intended to familiarize yourself with the structure of the database used
by the THERIAK-DOMINO software.
A complete description of the database
is included in the
THERIAK homepage.

Have a look at the description of the database. Read chapter: "The Database (dbs-File)".
